Selena
She was an artist, creator, performer and also set new boundaries in the music world. She was Mexican-American, but still traditional. She introduced Tejano into the mainstream of music. Her untimely death splintered her growing popularity and, as often happens when a glowing, charming singer dies too young, it has left many mourning her unrealized potential. In order to prevent her accomplishments from being forgotten her many admirers over the past years have been motivated to achieve more. The tragic shooting death of Tejano singer Selena spawned a reaction within the Latino community that could be thought of as similar to the responses to the deaths of Elvis Presley and John Lennon. The music of Selena a singer who was hugely successful throughout Latino communities across North America touched people young and old. Selena might have been described by many as a Latina Madonna, however she is still a great character model. Selena's values of family life offstage and involvement with AIDS awareness programs make her a good example.
